Frequently Asked Questons
At your complimentary consultation, we perform a patch test on a small area of your skin to show you the kind of results you can expect from treatment. Your hair removal goals are discussed at this time along with any questions or concerns you may have.
Permanent Hair Reduction
What Is The Difference Between Laser and Intense Pulsed Light Treatments?
IPL
is recognized as a major advancement in hair removal. It delivers
hundreds of colours of light with each flash and allows the operator to
vary the light in more ways then the relatively limited options
available with other lasers. This flexibility enables more customizable
treatments and can produce more effective and safer results.
- Our lasers are fully certified to claim 'permanent hair reduction'. Permanent hair reduction is a term used in the laser industry which means there will be some finer, lighter hair remaining after the course of treatments.
How is IPL Removal different from electrolysis?
- Electrolysis is a much slower process. With electrolysis a needle is inserted into each individual hair follicle. Once inserted, an electric shock burns the follicle to retard hair growth. IPL Hair Removal uses the light to scan the treatment area and within minutes all of the hairs in the light beam are treated. Most patients who have had both procedures say that IPL Hair Removal is less painful, faster and more convenient.
How does IPL hair removal work?
- The Intense Pulsed Light hair removal system targets the hair follicle. The energy directed from the IPL handpiece is absorbed by the melanin (pigment) in the hair follicle that is then converted to heat. This disables the hair follicle cells that are responsible for the growth of new hair resulting in permanent hair removal.
What areas can I have treated?
- All areas can be treated with the exception of around the eye.
What are the sessions like?
Sessions are private and quick with little down-time. Discomfort is minimal to none.
What should most people experience after treatment?
- People may experience mild redness and tenderness of the treated area which subsides within 24 hours. This does not interfere with normal activities. The treated hair continues to grow from 1 to 3 weeks after treatment and then falls out.
- Clients having facial work performed come for treatment every three to four weeks.;
- For body areas clients return every six to eight weeks.
How many IPL treatments will I need?
- The number
of treatments you may require for optimal benefits depends on the area, the hair density and your hair's growth
cycle. Factors that influence hair growth are: age, ethnicity, weight, hormones, diet, medication and
metabolism. There are 3 phases in the hair growth cycle: the anagen, catagen and telogen phase. The only hair that are disabled are those that are in the an anagen (or active) phase. Additional treatments scheduled to target the subsequent anagen phases of the cycle to ensure further hair reduction. Four to six treatments are recommended.
Will I have to come back for repeat treatments in the future?
- New growth can occur and varies between person to person. Some hair will remain dormant and can emerge at certain stages of life. You may require a touch up treatment every year or two.
How do I prepare for treatment?
- Your skin needs to be free of oil, lotions and make-up. The hair must be shaved with a non-alcohol based lotion prior to treatment. You must wait at least 4 weeks if you have recently waxed the area. Sun exposure should be kept to a minimum.
Photofacials
Are fotofacial, photofacial, and photorejuvenation the same thing?
- Yes. These terms all refer to facial treatment based upon a common principle: heating and stimulating the dermis (the inner layer of the skin) while cooling and protecting the epidermis.
What can this treatment do for me?
- Photofacial/photorejuvenation is particularly ideal for those suffering from undesirable redness, pigmentation from sun exposure, rosacea, facial flushing, and broken capillaries under skin. Photofacial treatment can also reduce irregularities in skin texture, refine pore size and give an overall even texture to one's complexion.
What can be treated during a photofacial session?
Photofacial therapy can effectively treat:
- Sun damage
- Broken capillaries
- Age spots
- Rosacea
- Other pigmentation abnormalities
What results can I expect after IPL photofacial treatment?
- Immediately after your treatment, your face will appear slightly red or flushed. It will take several hours to a day or so for the treatment's results to become noticeable. The redness will fade, and you will see improvements within three to four weeks. . Depending on the condition you are treating, your experience will differ. For example, if you are seeking to stimulate collagen growth, the redness may disappear sooner, and you will begin to see a smoother skin texture within a few days.
- Though recovery from a photofacial IPL treatment is rapid, it is important to keep in mind that sunscreen is vital to ensuring the results of the procedure last as long as possible. Be sure to protect the treated area from the sun for at least a couple of weeks either by covering the area or wearing 30SPF sunscreen.
- PhotoRejuvenation/photofacial treatment is a cosmetic treatment designed to produce younger and healthier looking skin. As most of us age, we begin to see visible signs of sun damage, time, and lifestyle choices appearing in our complexion. This aged look may include freckles, rosacea, wrinkles, broken capillaries, dark spots, blotchy skin color, redness of the face and neck, enlarged pore size and uneven pigmentation. With the use of Intense Pulsed Light technology, dramatic improvements can now be accomplished with little or no "downtime" and with very minimal discomfort.
What kind of results can I expect to see after treatment?
- Pigmentation may appear darker then begin to fade over the course of 7-14 days after treatment. Mild redness of the skin may occur immediately after treatment.
Why do I need additional treatments?
- This is a gradual process where a number of undesirable cells are removed while the surrounding tissue adjusts, recovers and consolidates itself around the remaining undesirable cells. More of these cells are expelled with each treatment until your desired result is achieved.
How often will I need to repeat the treatment series?
- Treatments are three weeks to one month apart. Trials show that symptoms are significantly reduced for months or years after treatment depending on the individual’s lifestyle.
Does it hurt?
- The degree of discomfort varies with the individual. Clients describe it as painless or a slight tingling sensation.
Is there anything else I should do or not do prior to treatment?
- It is always recommended to avoid sun exposure for at least 4 weeks prior to treatment for optimal results.
